The Digital Librarian Cares

The Shins have a song called Caring is Creepy.  I love the song but disagree with the sentiment.  Caring isn't creepy.  It's a luxury.  One is obliged to perform tasks one doesn't give a shit about all day long.  To be concerned about a person, a cause, an animal, a career...that is the joy of being human.  Think about what you truly care about.  Aaah.  Doesn't that feel good?

The Digital Librarian (that would be me) can see care and thoughtfulness in design.  Not all the time, but when it's there, it's there.  And I see these lovely Polaroid boxes and I know someone really got jazzed about this project in 1968 or whenever it was.  Someone came home at night and kept thinking about it, sipping a scotch, sketching with colored pencils at the kitchen table, until it was perfect.

Yes, it's good to care.
