Friday Night Videos

What in the name of stupid dope fresh do we have here? Why, it's the opening credits from the hip hop dance party show Graffiti Rock. If after watching these clips your appetite has been sufficiently whetted, you can watch the whole thing on YouTube. You'll be glad you did for it features Run DMC, Kool Moe Dee, Shannon, and dancin' Debi Mazar with blonde hair, intricate jeans, and cut outs on her sleeves.

Produced and hosted by Michael Holman, the show aimed to bring NYC youth culture to the masses. America, however, wasn't ready. The pilot was aired on WPIX in June of 1984 though the series was never picked up. Holman, a founding member of the band Gray along with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Nick Taylor, went on to produce Beat Street, write the screenplay for the film Basquiat, and direct the video for Run DMC's Christmas in Hollis.

All that is well and good but for the love of all things holy, who is Mr. Wave? From what I can tell, his is the president of all breakdancing with insides made of red hot jelly. He brings serious gliding skills at :38 then melts at 2:01. It's mind blowing.

Yo, have a fresh weekend!  Word.
